I grew up in a little town outside Wigan, England. Wigan is famous for pies and rugby league. I don't play rugby league but I do consume pies at an above average frequency and, like all Wiganers, consider myself a pie connoisseur.
I moved out of home to study psychology at Cardiff University and graduated in 2001. I completed my Masters degree in 2004 and accidentally fell into clinical trials. I started as a Data Manager at an oncology trials unit and put my prior knowledge of research methods and data handling to good use. I was promoted to Trial Manager where I was involved in protocol writing, HREC and MHRA submissions, CRF and Database design as well as study conduct tasks such as site selection, participant recruitment and onsite monitoring.
After 30 years of bad weather and soggy jeans I swapped the terrible weather and great TV for terrible TV and great weather. I emigrated to Queensland, Australia.
I worked as a CRA in a CRO that specialised in early phase research. I worked on a myriad of therapeutic indications (cancer, pain, dermatology, hepatitis, influenza, RSV, pulmonary arterial hypertension) across all types of trials (phase I-III, SAD, MAD, Cross-Over, Food Effect, bioavailability, DDI, Vaccines).
After four years, a trillion frequent flyer points and even more room service meals I moved to the newly established Biometrics department. I worked with Project Managers, sites and EDC vendors to develop a database that satisfied all stakeholders. I also did the site training and the data cleaning. To help improve efficiency, I trained in various EDC platforms and have since worked as a Senior Clinical Programmer. I have nearly 20 years of Biometrics and Clinical experience. My clinical background sets me apart from other Data Managers as I am able to think like a site, a CRA, a PM, a DM and a Programmer all at the same time.
In all of my prior roles I have had to liaise with internal and external stakeholders, coordinated study teams, budgets and timelines. In my most recent role I progressed to a management level where I was responsible for hiring, training and managing data management and clinical programming staff .
When I am not grappling with a complex edit check, you will find me in, on, under or near the ocean. Swimming, body surfing, scuba diving, snorkelling or kayaking. I also enjoy tennis, camping and mountain biking. I do none of these well but I enjoy them regardless.
This is a photo of where I live and I absolutely love it !!
